COVID Updates
As most of you are aware, we have been experiencing a higher than normal number of Positive COVID Cases and Close Contacts here at St. Louise since we've returned from Christmas Break.
With such a large volume of calls and emails to the office each morning, and in an effort to ensure that we are staying on top of each case as quickly and accurately as possible, please help us by following the important absence and COVID reporting procedures below.
- If your child tests positive for COVID, or is determined to be a Close Contact, please also email the office and Mrs. Reynolds so they can help determine next steps for your child and family.
- We appreciate you checking your email and voicemail often in case we have an urgent COVID matter to let you know about.
We know this is such a stressful time for everyone, but we THANK YOU you partnering with us to keep St. Louise safe and open for in-person learning.

Welcome to St. Louise - Get to know our New Families!
Welcome to the Little Family who's son Henry (3rd grade) started at St. Louise right after Thanksgiving.
(clockwise) Adam, Jennifer, Harper, Henry & Cooper
"We are originally from Spokane, WA. Lived in Portland, OR for 3 years then moved to Bellevue in January of 2021. We enjoy going on family adventures - From exploring our new home town or going somewhere out of state, finding new playgrounds or places to go hiking or paddle boarding, heading out on a scenic drive, attending events in our community (go Mariners and Seahawks!), eating at new restaurants, going to art or music shows and visiting the zoo or aquarium. Our favorite places to travel are Disneyland, Hawaii and Cannon Beach. When it is rainy out, we like to play board games, bake treats and read books together.
Henry enjoys learning about animals, building with Legos, and drawing and his activities are lacrosse and swimming. Harper likes to do crafts and draw and participates in gymnastics and swimming. They both aspire to learn how to ski and play piano this upcoming year. Adam is a Regional Executive with Merrill Lynch and Jennifer is a Human Resources consultant. Both enjoy traveling, cycling and running. We all adore our 2 year old Golden Retriever named Cooper. He goes on most of our family adventures too. We feel blessed to have found St. Louise as our parish and school!"
Call for Donations - Can you Help?
Dear STL Community,
I work with Catholic Community Services (of which New Bethlehem Project is a part). Several of our 170+ programs help people experiencing homelessness. And as the COVID cases continue to sky-rocket, keeping our clients safe gets more challenging. Many of our clients are needing to quarantine and isolate. We typically have used I&Q facilities run by King County to safely house our clients while they recover and isolate. Currently, we are struggling to get our clients into these County facilities due to lack of capacity and staffing.
We are responding to this challenge by establishing rooms in some of our facilities for Covid positive CCS clients to isolate. These rooms do not have televisions. This will make it difficult for people to isolate by themselves. We want to support these people to remain in their rooms and provide them with as much as we can to make it comfortable.
We are seeking 5-10 donated TV's to put in these quarantine rooms.
· Smallish tvs (24-32 inches) only that can be transported by a single person. These rooms are not big.
· TV’s must have stands – we can’t wall-mount them.
· Smart tvs are ok, these rooms have access to wi-fi.
I'm hoping some of our school families who got new TV's over the holidays have an old TV sitting in the basement or donation pile. Please feel free to email me with any questions or if you have a TV to donate, I will arrange pick up.
Thank you so much!

Welcome to St. Louise - Get to know our New Families!
Welcome to the Campbell Family who's son Chase (7th grade) started at St. Louise right after Thanksgiving. Todd, Rebecca, Lawson-15 and Chase -13
"Our family is a silly bunch, together we enjoy playing football and watching our favorite teams (Go Dawgs! Go Hawks!). Our oldest son is a Freshman at Interlake HS and an avid musician. Chase is an athlete all around and loves to win, even in the gaming world.
As a family, we love entertaining friends at our home and goofing around with nerf and footballs flying through the house…on the flip side, our favorite times are Friday night movie night with popcorn and treats. We have two little poodle puppies as well and they fit right into and are sometimes the cause of our chaos. We look forward to being a part of the community at St. Louise and bringing our family fun to the mix".

Holiday Wrap-Up - St. Louise Style
The last week of school before break was a busy one!
The teachers got things started with a Gingerbread House building contest. Students voted on the anonymous houses all week and the winners were Mrs. Kirby and Mrs. Isaksen, our awesome K/1st Instructional Assistants. A very close 2nd place was awarded to Mrs. Cervantes and Dr. Cruickshank.
Music was in the air all around campus with concerts performed by Kindergarten one day, and the 5th & 6th graders a separate evening. The end of the week was puncuated with a morning carpool serenade by our Band! Thanks to the countless number of people who helped make the Christmas Season at St. Louise an extra special one this year!

St. Nicholas Visits St. Louise
The long standing tradition of celebrating the Feast of St. Nicholas at St. Louise continued this past Monday. All our students placed one shoe outside their classroom and it was filled with a treat during the day. Some classes even got an in person visit from St. Nicholas himself!
Saint Nicholas was a Christian bishop who helped the needy. After his death, the legend of his gift-giving grew. Saint Nicholas transformed into the legendary character called Santa Claus, who brings Christmas presents to children around the world.
St. Louise Honor Guard - A Meaningful Ministry
Congratulations to Mary Herridge and our Jr. High Staff & Students who were recently featured in NW Catholic Magazine - highlighting an important ministry that many people are unaware we provide - Honor Guard.
Below is the text from the article written by Nathan Whalon. You can view the original article on their website here.
BELLEVUE – At the conclusion of Sharon Haggerty Anderson’s funeral in 2020, students from the parish school lined the sidewalk outside St. Louise Church, remaining at attention as the family, carrying her urn, and some 400 mourners walked by.
“It’s such a warm send-off when you’re leaving the church after the memorial,” said Haggerty Anderson’s daughter, Maureen Haggerty Blum.
The students are participants in St. Louise School’s honor guard, a ministry of presence at the funerals of people with a connection to the school.
Being in the honor guard helped eighth-grader Becca Blank realize how tiny things can help.
“You don’t realize it means that much to people,” she said.
“The best thing you can do sometimes is just show up,” said fellow eighth-grader Michael Charles. “It makes a big impact.”
Students often are thanked by people attending the funeral, who sometimes shake their hands or acknowledge them with a nod, Charles said.
Religion teacher Mary Herridge started the St. Louise honor guard in 1995, soon after she experienced a student honor guard at her father’s 1994 funeral at St. Paul Church in Seattle.
“It felt like a warm hug from a familiar community,” Herridge said.
At St. Louise, honor guard members are usually seventh- and eighth-graders, who wear their school uniforms when participating. It’s a way for them to practice the corporal works of mercy and Catholic social teaching, Herridge said. “They see the real-life connection,” she said. “We are standing in solidarity and support of those who are grieving.”
The honor guard attends about 20 funerals a year, drawing 20 to 80 students, depending on the time of a funeral and what’s happening in the classroom, Herridge said. Occasionally the honor guard is requested for people with a connection to the school whose funerals are at parishes in Bellevue, Kirkland and Sammamish.
“I think it’s a great witness [to] how we can be with each other in presence,” said St. Louise’s pastor, Father Gary Zender.
The students take their duty seriously. “They show a deep level of respect in their posture,” Father Zender said, and their school uniforms provide “a powerful presence.” It also reminds families of their connection to St. Louise School. “They were once part of the community,” Herridge said. “They are always part of the community.”
“I think it’s a beautiful witness to have the students,” said David Gehrig, St. Louise’s pastoral assistant for pastoral care, who helps plan funerals and asks eligible families if they would like the honor guard present.
Haggerty Blum said her mother — a founding and active member of the parish who sent all six of her children to St. Louise School — always thanked the honor guard students at funerals she attended and wanted the honor guard to be present at her own funeral.
On occasion after a funeral Mass, Gehrig has seen St. Louise alumni, now adults, join the students in the honor guard line. “It’s a great blessing and a real gift,” he said.
Participating in the honor guard is a good time for the students to reflect that life isn’t forever, Father Zender said: “The goal is to get into heaven.”

St. Louise Students Perform in PNB's The Nutcracker
We are so excited to announce that this year two of our extremely talented 8th graders have the honor of dancing in the PNB Nutcracker. Congratulations to Annalise Dautricourt who is performing the role of the lead, Clara, and Elina Nartates who is performing roles of a mouse and candy cane! These girls have been successfully juggling their 8th grade class load all while practicing, and now performing, most nights each week in order to bring the magic of The Nutcracker back to the stage after a COVID hiatus.
If you are interested in attending a performance, you can buy tickets here. The Dautricourt Family has generously extended their family promo discount of 20% off to our School Community - just use their code "NutFamily" or take advantage of a Black Friday Special when checking out. THANK YOU Dautricourts for the discount code and for also already setting up show opportunities for the Jr. High and Kindergarten Families! If you'd like to ensure you see Annalise & Elina perform you can check the performance calendar here - they are in the "A" shows.

Halloween Costume Guidelines
All students at St. Louise are allowed to come to school on Friday, October 29, wearing a Halloween costume.
When helping your child decide what his/her costume will be, please take into account these "Fun Dress Day" guidelines:
- Costumes must be appropriate for an elementary school and more importantly, a Catholic elementary school; therefore, themes or dress that are disrespectful and/or too "adult" need to stay home. This includes, but is not limited to:
- No dressing up as the opposite sex;
- No costume with a crude sense of humor.
- Violent themes are not allowed. This includes, but is not limited to, the banning of:
- Bloody makeup;
- Weapons (including fake ones);
- Costumes depicting devils or vampires;
- Costumes depicting violent characters such as Scream, Freddy Krueger, It/Pennywise, Dementor, etc.
- Mr. Fuerte has the final decision on which costumes are inappropriate. You may ask them, if you wonder if your child's costume will be considered appropriate or not. Or simpler yet - if you have to wonder...then the answer probably is you should choose another costume. ;-)
- Thanks for keeping the "Happy" in "Happy Halloween!" by making this a fun day with no hassles.
