Art
The Art Program at St. Louise School, taught by Mrs. Mika Walker, B.F.A. inspires creativity and self-expression in students from kindergarten through eighth grade, fostering a deep appreciation for art through hands-on experiences with various mediums and techniques, integrated with art history and the study of design principles.
Overview:
- Curriculum Focus: Emphasizes the Elements of Art (line, shape, form, space, color, value, texture) and Principles of Design (balance, contrast, movement, rhythm, pattern, emphasis, harmony, unity, variety, proportion).
- Variety of Mediums: Charcoal, oil pastels, watercolors, acrylics, clay, and more.
- Project Types: Both 2D and 3D art, including individual and group projects.
- Art Integration: Includes historical and contemporary art appreciation.
- Learning Objectives: Develop art skills, vocabulary, and techniques appropriate for each grade level.
- Grading Criteria: Based on understanding, application of art knowledge, participation, and responsibility.
Kindergarten / 1st Grade
- Identify colors on the Color Wheel including Primary, Secondary, Warm and Cool colors. Practice color mixing using Primary colors.
- Identify and draw geometric shapes. Recognize patterns and types of lines.

2nd / 3rd Grade

- Practice color mixing to create Secondary colors and brown.
- Discover and draw 3D forms. Recognize types of balance in art.
- Demonstrate drawing proper proportions in the human face.
