First Grade
First Grade at St. Louise School provides a nurturing and faith-centered environment where students build foundational academic and social skills. The curriculum is designed to foster independence, responsibility, and a love of learning through interactive and hands-on activities that integrate literacy, numeracy, science, and community engagement. With small class sizes and dedicated staff, first graders are supported in their growth as confident learners and compassionate members of the school community.
1st Grade Overview:
- Each classroom is designed to foster a nurturing and structured environment where students can thrive academically and socially.
- Emphasis on building strong foundational skills in literacy and numeracy through interactive and hands-on learning.
- Students are encouraged to develop independence, responsibility, and positive interpersonal skills.
- Daily routines include prayer, community-building activities, and lessons that integrate faith and academics.
- Focus on creating a supportive and collaborative classroom culture that respects each child's unique strengths and learning style.
Curriculum Overview:
- Religion: Understanding God, Jesus, and the church’s seasons.
- Reading and Writing: Phonics, comprehension, and writing skills.
- Math: Addition, subtraction, measurement, time, and problem-solving.
- Science: Sun, moon, stars, and life cycles.
- Social Studies: Community, traditions, and basic map skills.
- Additional subjects include Art, Music, PE, Computers, Library, and safety education.
Service Projects:
- Supports St. Vincent De Paul Society with coat collections and New Bethlehem Project with book drives. (We will be doing something new this year that Jeanine will be putting together)
- Participates in school-wide projects like Thanksgiving Food Drive and Advent supplies collection.
Enrichment Opportunities:
- Field trips, School of Toy STEM project, and collaboration with fourth-grade buddies for projects and Mass.
1st Grade Staff: The first-grade team at St. Louise School includes Mrs. Jeanine Marley, M.Ed., and Mrs. Dianna Portolese, MIT. Both bring a wealth of experience and a nurturing approach to their classrooms, with Mrs. Michelle Kujath providing additional support as the instructional assistant.
